Mount Tamalpais, March 2008
On March 17, 2008, I visited Mount Tamalpais in Marin County. From the road up to the Rock Springs parking area, one gets nice views of San Francisco. The mist was lifting but still provided a layer on and around the city over the hills. All images taken with my Canon 1D mark II and Canon lenses.
After parking at Rock Springs, I took the Cataract Trail that winds down through the trees, past a series of waterfalls, and ends at Alpine Lake. I was looking for wild flowers, but found only a few–mostly shooting stars and milkmaids. (For a separate trip to the waterfalls, click HERE.) However, I did find some nice mossy rocks and downed trees.
I turned around and headed back before reaching the waterfalls, but then noticed an interesting fungus growing on a decayed log. The largest of these dish-like fungi was about 3 inches across.
Here's a closer look at the 3-inch fungus.
