Tule Elk

A family portrait: a bull elk and two of his ladies taking their ease.

Below, the bull bugling, warning other males to stay out of his territory. There were about 20 females in his harem.

One of the other bulls. Friendly-looking, but he has a broken tine on one of his antlers, perhaps from challenging the big guy.

Below, the same bull, showing his left antler broken near the tip. Still plenty of points to do some damage to photographers! Good to have a long telephoto when imaging elk in rutting season. The above "close-up" is a 100% crop!

Two more bachelor bulls, leaving the scene after being bugled at.

Below, antlers in the grass. A couple more of the bachelor group, staying well away from the dominant bull.
