North America & Pelican Nebulas,

In Cygnus 2004 Images

Two of the largest and most famous emission nebulas in the northern sky, they call for repeat imaging almost every year. These are the results of a lucky string of clear weather in September 2004. More information about the nebulas (and older images) can be found by clicking here.

 Scope

 Nikkor 180 mm f/2.8 at f/5.6 piggybacked on a 1200 GTO mount.  

 Camera: SBIG ST-10XME with Astrodon filters. Guiding with internal chip. .

 Exposure

 Above image: 6 frames at 10 min each with Astrodon RGB filters.  Below image: 

 14 ten-minute frames  with Astrodon 6 nm H-alpha filter.

 Processing 

 Calibrated and combined in MaxIm 4, final processing in PhotoShop.
